Synthetic chemistry has not fully enjoyed the benefits of increasingly inexpensive and flexible automation and data analysis/artificial intelligence tools. Using specific examples from carbohydrate chemistry, this presentation will outline the problems encountered in the process of developing chemical reactions for automated synthesis platforms as well as introduce a low-cost modular approach to automate almost any reaction for ready reproducibility. These new methods have enabled not only the automation of glycosylation reactions, but also a variety of other reactions needed to make carbohydrate building blocks.<br/>
