In the quest for new metallo-pharmaceuticals with enhanced anticancer activity, ligands containing sulfur donor atoms have attracted much interest in coordination chemistry. In particular, phosphine-carbon disulfide adducts, are robust ligands that exhibit a variety of coordination modes to transition metal centers. Among these, phosphoniodithioformates (phosphanecarbodithioates) constitute a well know class of such analogues. In the presence of cesium carbonate and TBAI, phosphine-carbon disulfide adducts may be alkylated using primary and secondary alkyl halides efficiently via a mild, one-pot, three-component coupling reaction.
