Using ongoing environmental chemistry outreach to enhance middle school student exposure to chemistry will be proposed in this presentation. Ongoing Great Lakes research at Central Michigan University is leveraged to provide water chemistry experiences for middle school classroom students. The data collected will have numerous challenges for accuracy; it enables visualizing science and allows students the chance to explore science in action, which they may not otherwise get the freedom to explore. The data collection experience allows researchers to relate the relevance of environmental accuracy to educational research prowess. By creating a research-based project for these classrooms, teachers will be able to engage their students in critical thinking skills related to the Great Lakes and bridge the gap between educators and researchers.
