Near IR emitters have been sought out for their potential applications in biological systems. These emitters can be used as sensors, dyes, or tags, that can be tracked in vivo due to their emission which lies in the proper region to penetrate living tissue. Here, three new complexes are reported that exhibit near IR lanthanoid emission due to f-f transitions of the excited metal atoms. Synthesized from lanthanoid salts and a salicylaldehyde hydrazone, these complexes have absolute quantum yields of 18.2%, 1.8%, and 0.5%, where Ln = Yb, Nd, and Er respectfully. All complexes are excited at 390 nm and show the characteristic peaks for each lanthanoid in the near IR region, demonstrating very large stokes shifts ranging from 587 to 1163 nm. These complexes can further be tested in cells to determine their cytotoxicity and potentially could be used in the future as bioimaging luminescent probes.<br/>
