The intercalation of guest species within the interlayer of zirconium phosphate (ZrP) has led to numerous applications such as catalysis, drug delivery, and waste remediation. Recently developed surface reactions have the potential to add specificity or additional functionality to intercalated ZrP, however the combination of interlayer and surface chemistry within ZrP materials has not been well studied. A two-step intercalation and surface modification procedure was used to synthesize bi-functional ZrP materials. The resulting materials were characterized using powder x-ray diffraction, FTIR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and other techniques in order to investigate the overall reactivity, structure, and properties of the materials. <br/>
