The ability to utilize light as a stimulus for cargo delivery, sensing, and actuation has drawn significant attention, given that it can provide spatial and temporal control over the desired transformation. In this lecture, the discovery and develpment of a novel library of tunable negative photochromic compounds, termed donor-acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASAs) will be discussed. The effect of "donor" and "acceptor" composition on reactivity, absorption, equilibrium, and fatique, as well applications in actuation and sensing will be presented.
