Various POSS-ZrOPr<sup>i </sup>and POSS-HfOPr<sup>i </sup>complexes have been synthesized and structurally fully characterized. These new Zr and Hf siloxides are capable of catalytically reducing a wide range of carbonyls in good yields with low catalyst loadings. High temperatures are required to initiate dissociation of the dimeric Zr and Hf complexes to their monomeric complexes, which are the active catalyst species in the reduction process. Similar catalytic performances were noted in wet-isopropanol as reductant confirming the water tolerance of the isolated catalysts. Here, we wish to report on the synthesis, structure and catalytic activity of these sterically overloaded Transition Metal based POSS compounds.
