Co-operative education is the cornerstone of Northeastern's educational model, and has been since 1909. Today, our chemistry majors have the option of following 4-year or 5-year programs of study leading to ACS-approved bachelor's degrees that incorporate two or three 6-month co-op experiences. These experiences have provided students with a broad spectrum of research opportunities that push the traditional boundaries of chemistry and that they will need to fill positions in growing segments of today’s chemical enterprise. The co-op program has also provided employers with cohorts of enthusiastic, skilled workers that they have integrated into their R&D workforce. This presentation will describe examples of the above that incorporate student, employer, and faculty perspectives.
