Clay is not only popular in mud therapy for skin care or leisure industry, also has been used in cosmetics, because it is environmental benign material. In this study, natural bentonite, one of clay exhibiting acromatics color, was colored via combination with plant-derived polyphenols and inorganics without mordant dye. The color was changed from white to yellowish, blue or brown after reaction in aqueous and the color of bentonite powder was qualitatively analyzed after drying using colorimetric instrument. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis displayed the presence of polyphenol and inorganics- intercalated bentonite. Surface characterization by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectra confirmed the formation of functional groups on the surface of natural bentonite at 1,000-1,600 nm. Those bentonite was able to show very crystal spherical shape and uniform diameters ranged from 20-50 um due to spray dryer technique, whose particle size is known to be common one of cosmetics powder, because it has good skin texture compared to smaller one. Spherical shape and length of diameter were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The colored bentonite was made based on the eco-friendly additives and method that is believed to have potential application in cosmetics as raw materials
