Rhenium diimine carbonyl catalysts have been well-studied as potentially carbon-neutral catalysts for the reduction of CO<sub>2 </sub>to CO.This process converts the harmful greenhouse gas to CO, which can be easily converted into chemicals that are essential for chemical industry. Understanding the mechanism of the electrocatalytic cycle for these catalysts is key to optimizing their efficiency. Spectroelectrochemistry combines optical spectroscopy techniques with traditional electrochemical methods, allowing for both the determination of properties such as redox potentials and the identification of species formed throughout the mechanism, giving a more complete understanding of the mechanism. I have used both Fourier transform and two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy methods to study the electrocatalytic cycle of a rhenium diimine carbonyl catalyst, which allows for even greater insight into the real-time dynamics of the mechanism. <br/>
