Proteins are widely used to treat disease.  Conjugation of polymers and small molecule therapeutics to proteins often results in desirable properties.  These include enhanced pharmacokinetics, stability, solubility, and targeting ability. This talk will focus on conjugation of biomimetic polymers to proteins to increase their stability and pharmacokinetics.  Efforts to minimize loss of bioactivity by targeted conjugation and the use of specially designed linkers will be discussed.  Safety studies including immunogenicity, toxicity, and biodistribution studies, as well as efficacy in the treatment of diabetes and cancer will be presented. Further, conjugation of small molecule drugs to proteins to enhance their targeting will be introduced.  Specifically, conjugation of antiretroviral drugs to vault protein particles and their efficacy to prevent human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection will be communicated.  <br/>
