The hybridization of block copolymers and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to prepare novel materials (block copolyMOFs, BCPMOFs) with interesting properties is described. PolyMOFs are a unique class of materials wherein using amorphous, one-dimensional polymers containing multitopic ligands for MOF formation yield crystalline porous materials. Simple modification of block copolymers with MOF-forming blocks and non-coordinating blocks can be used to control the morphology of resultant polyMOF materials and is presented herein. Furthermore, efforts to prepare block copolymers for the development of functional BCPMOFs will be described. Probing the chemistry of block copolymers can provide access to functional BCPMOFs materials for a use in a variety of applications.
