To create rechargeable battery for next generation, we challenged different types of active materials for the air cathode material and ionic liquid based electrolyte for Al air battery. Air cathode materials we have attempted was actived carbon, nitrogen doped carbonaceous material, perovskite oxide, aluminum terephthalate as metal organic framework, and non-oxide ceramic such as TiN, TiC and TiB2. Perovskite oxide, TiN and TiC materials demonstrated stable performance in electrochemical reactions over the long term. Furthermore, when TiC was used as air cathode material, formation of byproducts such as Al(OH)3 and Al2O3 was suppressed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the suppression of the formation of such byproducts on both anode and the air cathode for Al air battery. Furthermore, we have attempted creating solid electrolyte for Al air battery by choosing and combining various type of chemicals including AlCl3, hydrophobic additive, humectant, resins, deep eutectic solvents and ionic liquid. Finally, we have prepared small prototype all solid-state rechargeable Al air battery with the solid electrolyte composed of AlCl3, deep eutectic solvent, ionic liquid, humectant and resin mixture. This battery was rechargeable with electrical outlet at home and office, and lasted for more than 1 month in normal atmosphere and illuminated small LED.
