Halloysite nanotube (HNT), a natural product possesses same chemical composition as kaolinite, has received a lot of attention due to their attractive properties including large cavity volume, good dispersibility in water, low-cost, nontoxicity and desirable biocompatibility [1-3]. These peculiarities make HNT a excellent carrier material in biomedical and catalysis field. It should be noted that chemical modification upon HNT would prepare novel HNT-based nanocomposites and thereby achieving broader applications. Recently, we have explored chemical modification methods upon HNT by using different agent: 1) ‘‘Click’’ chemistry: The azide groups were decorated on the HNTs intermediated by KH550® and 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide, which can be further combined with alkynyl-containing chromophores with high grafting degree. 2) Arylboronic acid: Arlyboronic acid can also be covalently linked to the polyhydric surface of HNT, in which the established B-C linkage gives a highly specific and sensitive reponsce to H2O2. Following this way, the HNTs-based H2O2-responsive fluorescence probe and drug delivery system were developed. 3) Redox-initiating system: Polymers can be facilely grafted onto HNTs in an aqueous phase by a one-step method initiated by Ce(IV) at a mild temperature based on a redox-initiating system that consists of the hydroxyl groups on the HNTs and the supernormal valence transition-metal. 4) Isocyanate: Vinyl groups can be introduced into the surface of HNTs via the reaction between -CNO in 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate and -OH groups on HNTs. The modified HNTs bearing multi-vinyl groups could be used as crosslinkers in free-radical polymerizations to construct chemical hydrogels
