This six-week program offers chemical foundations to incoming students at the university level in preparation for general chemistry coursework. Preliminary exposure through the bootcamp allows incoming students to brace themselves for the rigor of college before the start of the semester. Through student-led small groups, incoming students form communities where they share their concerns as they complete the weekly modules with the help of both professors and student leaders. In this presentation, we will focus on the challenges that students face in transitioning to a rigorous college program and the strategies implemented through the TCU Chemistry Bootcamp to facilitate a successful calibration. Key goals included engaging experienced student mentors to identify challenges that incoming students face.
