SnS is a narrow band gap semiconductor, which can be considered as an inexpensive bidimensional material, constituted by high abundance elements. Its electronic properties make it a potential candidate for multiple applications, especially for energy storage and conversion, such as batteries, supercapacitors and thermoelectrics.<br/><br/>In this work, single-phase polycrystalline SnS has been prepared by microwave-hydrothermal synthesis. This cost-effective approach allows a reduction of the synthesis time (2 hours) and temperature (180 C), boosting a decrease of the particle size, which can be efficiently brought to the nanoscale. Additionally, a significant amount of Sn vacancies, randomly distributed in the crystal structure, was identified by neutron diffraction. This phenomenon produces a significant influence on the physical properties of the compound, as there is an increase of the high carrier density and mobility.<br/><br/>More details on the synthesis and sintering procedure, structural and microstructural characterization along with electrochemical and physical properties measurements will be presented in this communication.
