Product manufacturers in the cannabis space are increasingly getting interest from customers desiring to put a shelf life on their cannabis products to support the potency claim (typically in mg/unit) established at the point of manufacture. However, there is little research available, specifically accelerated stability studies that provide data to show how these claims are impacted over the course of the life of a product. This study’s purpose is to see whether the cannabinoid profiles of cannabis extracts evolve over time.<br/>To achieve this, cannabinoid profiles in four Hemp Derived CBD Extracts extracted using CO2 super critical fluid in 3 different forms; raw materials on their own, raw materials in an oil-based formula and raw materials an emulsion formula were placed on accelerated stability over the course of 6 months in compliance with ICH guidelines and modeled off those used in the personal care and cosmetics industry. The preliminary results have showed no degradation in cannabinoid potency profiles over time. The 3-month results suggest that the cannabinoid profiles of Hemp Derived Cannabis Extracts are stable in their raw material form, in oil based formulations and in emulsion based formulations for 3 months in a 40C/75% RH condition which confirms confidence in a 2 year product expiration date to support the cannabinoid potency claim.<br/>If no degradation is seen at the completion of the 6 month with a completion date of March 2021, a 3 year product expiration date will be supported for the cannabinoid potency profile across all three forms tested in the study.
