The Detroit Mercy Chemistry Club has hosted a winter semester Women in Science Symposium for the past three years. To increase visibility of this event, our Club decided to host another Women in Science event in the winter Our Club virtually hosted a diverse panel of graduate and post-doctoral students. Audience members were given the opportunity to ask questions and speak to panelists who broke down barriers and entered a male-dominated field, despite facing discrimination. This year, with the theme of intersectionality, the audience entered one of three breakout rooms, but all were able to listen to each topic as the speakers rotated. These topics were LGBTQIA+ issues, salary negotiation, and harassment in the workplace. The panel helped to demonstrate the issues, struggles, and successes of women in the field of science to young students pursuing careers in an increasingly diverse field.
