The proposed communication is part of a doctoral thesis in sociology (nearing completion). This thesis takes the complex (journal-scholarly society-disciplinary conference) as research object and illustrates the interdependence of these three components through four distinct empirical studies.<br/>In this communication, based on one of the four chapters, I describe the implementation of Open Access policies in Sweden since 2013. The empirical material work is mostly based on a dozen of semi-structured interviews in Sweden. The academic publishing market is here studied from the perspective of the economization literature, meaning studies of the construction of markets and the associated anthropology of calculation. In this analytical framework, economic exchanges are no longer a matter of a “simple” contract between librarians and publishers, but of distributed “qualculative agencies" (Callon et al., 2013) populated with actors, knowledge, technologies but also lists of journals, vouchers, etc. Today, the most widespread OA model in chemistry is the Article Process Charge (APC) model, where the authors/institutions pay fees to have the electronic versions of their articles OA. I focus on librarians and their ability to constitute a collective and solve the problems on their own. Based on the professional trajectory of actors with hybrid backgrounds, I first describe an emerging world (the OA professionals) from the angle of its socialization bodies, its mechanisms of conquest and control of a jurisdiction, but also its relations to its users.<br/>From the study of the trajectory of chemistry articles, I then show that the economic exchanges are variable, according to the “reticular” organization model of chemistry. While some OA mechanisms may redefine the role of librarians as “guardians of the resources”, others require programming or financing skills. I describe how a set of practices, infrastructures and tools (from Excel files to advanced scientometrics) enable and shape commercial exchanges of "scientific articles" (as commodities) built in interaction with researchers, students and publishers.
