<br/>As technology advances, there is a growing need for new materials having alternative properties and improved performance. Changes in the composition of semiconductors in electronics have given rise to the expansive field of organic electronics. The development of small molecules, inorganic complexes and conjugated polymers can find utility in flexible devices such as displays, sensors and photovoltaics. One strategy towards accessing new physical and electronic properties is to incorporate heavier main-group elements into small molecules and polymers. 2-aryl-1,3-benzoxaphospholes (BOPs) are low-valent phosphorus-bearing heterocycles that display intense blue emission, often with high quantum yields. This work explores the synthesis of new BOPs as luminescent small molecules having tailored properties suitable for potential applications in polymers and organic electronics.
