A must needed system in every electrical energy generation technology, either conventional or non-conventional, especially renewable energy systems is energy storage devices including storage elements like battery or super capacitors. Among them the most widely used storage element is battery as they have a slow charge and slow discharge rate. Every battery performance is characterized by certain essential parameters such as State of Charge (SoC), Depth of Discharge (DoD), C-rate, voltage capacity, energy density etc. At present the most leading battery technology is Li-ion. The first lithium ion battery was reported by Whittigam in 1976. The cathode was layered Titanium di-sulphide and the anode was metallic lithium. But it was not successful because of lithium dendrite formation and short circuit upon extensive cycling and safety concern. In the same year, Bessenhard proposed that the anode be made of intercalation of lithium ion into graphite and the cathode be oxides of lithium. It was discovered by Besenhard, Yazami and Basu that the layered structure of graphite made it a good candidate to reversibly store lithium by intercalation/deintercalation. Several people proposed improvements in the battery, by changing the anode, cathode and the electrolyte. In the past two decades, the lithium ion batteries have progressed further, with the introduction of low cost cathode  by Goodenough in 1996, and high capacity anode of C-Sn-Co by Sony in 2005. Currently silicon nanowires are explored as potential high capacity anodes. Deng et al. after extensive study of tin, iron and copper oxides based nanostructures have discovered that iron and copper oxides can potentially replace the now used graphite, for the negative electrodes. Li-ion batteries find numerous applications ranging from powering Electric Vehicles to mobile phones and laptops. Li-ion batteries have a high electrochemical potential and high energy density with flexible design. Li-ion voltage capacity is thrice that of nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries. This, in combination with the fact that Lithium ion batteries are design flexible, is why this technology is trending right now. During charging and discharging process of the cell the direction of current can be negative or positive value which results in entropy effect causing reversible heat in battery. In order to protect from reversible heat there is a need of thermal management and depending on the application the battery management system (BMS) is required. To explore on the possibility of more efficient types of Li-ion batteries for more applications a wide demand in identifying, modeling and testing of different possible combinations of electrode materials and electrolytes of Li-ion batteries arose. Taking this demand into consideration authors of this paper focuses on the modeling and simulation of a wide variety of possible combinations of Li-ion battery in 2-dimensional modeling and 3-dimensional modeling is carried out. Several essential parameters such as State of Charge (SoC), Depth of Discharge (DoD), C-rate, voltage capacity and energy density are measured and validated experimentally with the existing batteries. Once validated, by changing the electrode materials with different combinations (positive: LiMn2O4 & LiFePO4, negative: graphite) and the electrolyte as polymer type (LiPF6 in 1:xEC:DMC and p(VdF-HFP)) the characteristics and the performance of battery are analyzed at different C-rates. The Electro-Thermal effect of the battery is also analyzed with the 2-D models and the results are compared.
