Three methods are compared for the analysis of aspartame in tabletop sweeteners.  A colorimetric method using a modified biuret solution is compared to UV analysis. Sweeteners need to be free of UV chromophores for the comparison.  Due to the nature of HPLC, all sweeteners containing aspartame with or without added UV chromophores were analyzed using UV detection. Figures of merit are provided for all three methods.
