Bacteria, fungi, and parasites adapt over time to survive in threatening living conditions. These organisms have become more resistant to antimicrobial treatment thus making infections harder to treat systematically. Pests that have become more immune to antimicrobial application have led to a drastic change in the number of crops yielded for consumption. About thirty-three percent (33%) of food produced within the United States (US) is wasted because of the reduced effects pesticides have on developing plants. Glycosylated peptides have shown the potential to increase antibacterial efficiency, but more importantly they are intrinsic and abundant in many insects' host immune systems. Glycosylated peptides also offer opportunities for novel mechanisms of action that will allow us to fight pests and bacteria more efficiently. These peptides can be glycosylated in 4 different ways through substituents containing N-, C-, S-, and O- atoms. Herein, we report the synthesis of a series of<i> de-novo</i> glycosylated peptides. In the near future, we will determine the effect of glycosylation on (1) the antimicrobial effects of the peptides and (2) the cytotoxicity in both plants and animal cells.
