Sodium-ion batteries have long been too impractical in comparison to their Lithium-ion competitors due to their poor energy storage, and generally higher weights. However, sodium is not only much safer to work with, but also astronomically more abundant than lithium, making it a desired replacement for lithium. It is hypothesized that substituting traditional anodes with a layered architecture comprised of graphene electrodes will greatly increase the battery capacity of sodium-ion batteries. Providing necessary alternatives and in some cases replacements for the dangerous and environmentally damaging, lithium-ion batteries, of which, current energy storage solutions demand. Unique and existing sodium-ion battery prototypes which use this novel graphene layering technique were analyzed for milliwatt hour storage capabilities in close comparison with rival lithium-ion storage methods. Battery prototypes utilized nanometric graphite, formed with sheets of graphene to form a new anode for sodium-ion batteries. This allowed for electrons storage capabilities to be greatly increased, with levels to rival lithium-ion counterparts. Early prototypes improved on the storage up to ten times versus traditional sodium-ion battery architecture. Fully detailed architectural changes, their purpose, and respective yields, will be detailed in this presentation.
