The high reactivity and tendency towards aggregation of the heavy s-block metal based compounds is limiting their utility in synthetic, polymer, catalytic and solid state applications.1 While remarkable progress has been made toward the optimization of synthetic pathways and the exploration of alternative synthetic routes to overcome various synthetic challenges towards these compounds, significant restrictions and limitations remain. The synthesis by family of model compounds followed by their systematic introduction of metal-donor, agostic, metal-p, and metal-F interactions allows the control of volatility and reactivity. This paper will present systematic studies evaluating the effect of the presence of donor and non-covalent interactions and their impact on the structure and function.
