Hosted by CAS, the Pistoia Alliance Chemical Safety Library (CSL) provides unique crowd-sourced content containing hazardous reaction information that can be used to alert chemists to potentially dangerous experiments. While many safety resources cover information on individual substances, the CSL records must include at least two substances. Data and observations may come from lab experiences or from the literature. This kickoff session will help participants ramp up so that they better understand the scope, content, and methods for helping to add content to the CSL. While users must register before being able to enter content, database search results do not include personal/institutional identification information. All entries are reviewed before they are published. Permissions for bulk downloading to view trends or datamine is available. Chemists, EH&S staff, and librarians have complementary perspectives and contributions to expand the content available in the CSL so that unexpected reactions occur less frequently in the lab.
