Invisible work is work that essential to science and the scientific community but is not valued for professional advancement or in graduate education. This work disproportionately falls onto women and scientists of marginalized backgrounds and addressing invisible work is a chemistry, education, and DEI issue. Examples of invisible work in chemistry graduate education include: engaging in science communication to the public, outreach, service, nonresearch mentorship, leadership, and advocacy. In this presentation the following will be shared: [1] Incorporating invisible work in graduate education by including it in a PhD dissertation and defense [2] reporting a model of measuring the impact of invisible work through a dissertation [3] reporting the results of the impact of invisible work Impact of research may involve looking at journal impact factor, number of downloads, and citations. The impact of invisible work in science looks very different than that and this work examines ways to measure and report the impact of invisible work in the context of graduate chemistry education.
