Highly efficient light-emitting phosphors are important for energy conversion and light emission devices. Within nano sized range, phosphors can have more potential application in bio-imaging and bio-labeling areas. Herein, Zn2GeO4 doped Mn2+ phosphors, with internal quantum efficiency of 98.2% and nanoparticle size, were synthesized by simple co-precipitation method followed with high temperature molten salt method in ambient atmosphere. Narrow band emission with 535 nm peaking position were achieved by 250 nm excitation, which is indicated to 4T1 → 6A1 of Mn2+ by electronic transition from VB to CB. XRD, SEM and fluorescence spectroscopy were analyzed to confirm the structure and light emission properties of phosphors. Persistent luminescence was also observed at high temperature treated phosphors, which is ascribed to the energy defect trapping of Vo/Zni near CB and V’Zn/V0Ge at VB. Antibodies coated nano-phosphors were synthesized for protein detection with detection range around 3.75 – 20 ng/mL. These results show that Zn2GeO4 doped Mn2+ nanoparticles can be as a good phosphor’s candidate for bio-application utilized in imaging, labeling and protein detection.
