Temple University Chemical Society (TUCS) is a professional student organization that encourages career development, community service, and collaboration in undergraduate chemistry education. TUCS strives to promote meaningful connections between students and professors through events like Lunch and Lab – an event where students can learn and ask questions about faculty research within chemistry. In addition, TUCS hosts Scientists in Training, an opportunity for undergraduate scientists to learn about laboratory research through discussions about valuable experiences, responsibilities, and takeaways. TUCS members are invited to network and meet with Temple alumni to discuss opportunities beyond undergraduate education, such as those in industry and graduate schools. Based in Philadelphia, TUCS works closely with local high school students to support their fundamental science education and early interests in the natural sciences. University-wide events, like Setting the Spike – a volleyball tournament fundraiser to raise money for a local science program – and club-centered events, like school supply drives, are essential to our role in the Philadelphia community. By engaging in Chem and Coffee Hour, TUCS members can collaborate with students from various backgrounds and interests over refreshments. TUCS also hosts casual homework hangout sessions, where students can work on assignments while chatting with each other and the executive board members. Finally, at General Body Meetings, we invite all members to an evening of interesting chemistry experiments, like liquid nitrogen ice cream or elephant toothpaste, while fostering a positive and social environment. In all, TUCS is dedicated to providing our members with the resources for success at Temple University and all future endeavors in the field of chemistry.
