Morressier and senior leaders from academic publishing form Strategic Advisory Board to stimulate positive change in scholarly communications industry
Senior executives from across academic publishing join inaugural session of Morressier Strategic Advisory Board, with plan to meet in person in February 2024
Berlin, Germany, and Washington, D.C., December 6, 2023 – Morressier, the company transforming scholarly communications, today announced the formation of a new Strategic Advisory Board composed of the most senior leaders from across the scholarly communications community. The Board, facilitated and supported by Morressier, will provide a lively, critical, and direct forum to stimulate innovation and collaboration across the industry. With a focus on academic publishing’s not-for-profit community, it will work on crucial issues such as research integrity and publishing workflows.
The inaugural meeting of the Strategic Advisory Board took place on November 21, creating an agenda for the first in-person meeting, to take place in February in New York City. The Board members are:

- Dana Compton, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
- Alison Denby, Oxford University Press (OUP)
- Steven Heffner, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
- Mandy Hill, Cambridge University Press
- Miriam Maus, Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP)
- Bill Moran, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
- Niamh O'Connor, PLOS
- Sean Pidgeon, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
- Claire Rawlinson, BMJ
- David Smith, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
- Simone Taylor, American Psychiatric Association (APA)
- Terri Teleen, Emerald Publishing
The board is currently chaired and facilitated by Alice Meadows of the MoreBrains Cooperative. Action areas the board will look at include:
- New technologies and standards to improve publishing systems and workflows, delivering efficiencies and enabling publishers to better detect and prevent research misconduct
- AI and misinformation
- Collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders in the scientific communications community
