The University of Toledo Student American Chemical Society (UT StACS) received the American Chemical Society National Community Interaction Grant in August of 2017. The project, Hands-On Chemistry", was new to UT StACS and the surrounding community. The project combined the student chapter's abilities and strong STEM connections in the UT science and engineering community to serve the Toledo students and public through various outreach events by providing exposure through chemistry experiments. The purpose of this project was to encourage STEM interest to students within the Toledo Public School (TPS) district that do not have the same access as their suburban counterparts due to socioeconomic differences. This program is helping encourage TPS students to pursue careers in the STEM fields.
