Remarkable volume expansion and poor electrical conductivity hinder the commercial application of silicon (Si) in lithium-ion batteries despite the fact that it delivers a high theoretic specific capacity. Graphene coating is a facile method to improve the electrochemical of Si anode electrode. Here, a graphene coating Si nanoparticle composite material (Si@G) has been prepared via a facile method of chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Si@G has outstanding electrical conducting, super mechanical strength and chemical stability to form a stable SEI film and effectively buffer the drastic volume change of Si during the repeated lithiation/delithiation process. As the anode material, the Si@G electrode exhibits a high average capacity (3000 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1), super rate capability (1650 mAh g-1 at 5A g-1) and long-term cycling stability (75% capacity retention after 100 cycles). Our work provides a facile method to synthesize a high performance of anode materials for the future commercialization of Si anode.
