Furfural is an organic compound present in a high variety of food and beverages. It is known that frequent exposure to great doses of this compound could be a risk to human health. Previous works have reported that the consumption of furfural can lead to liver and cancer diseases, among other illnesses.  There are several analytical methods used to detect furfural in samples of food and beverages, however, Solid Phase Micro Extraction turns out to be one of the best for this purpose due to some advantages, such as the low amount of sample used, no need of solvents when preparing the sample and less interference due to a selective stationary phase. Nonetheless, it is the high cost of the commercial fiber used in this technique that makes the method expensive. For this reason, we have developed different coatings based on Graphene Oxide (GO) supported in stainless steel wires to be applied in furfural extraction. Some of the coatings were thermally treated which led to a best adsorption capacity compared to a commercial fiber.
