The Rovis group has been working on the selective functionalization of unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds. There are reactivity and selectivity challenges in terms of C-H bond functionalization due to their high bond strength and chemical indistinguishability. Herein, we report a regioselective remote arylation of unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds with the combination of photoredox-catalyzed 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) system and nickel catalytic system. By changing the ligand environment, we can selectively achieve 1,4 and 1,5 arylation. Mechanistic studies were conducted to provide support for nickel chain-walking mechanism for the 1,4 regioselectivity.
