Background
Lifting capacity of patients with Chronic Multifactorial Back Pain (CBP) is limited. Physical factors, pain, and Non-Organic Signs (NOS) contribute to lifting capacity in patients with CBP.
Pain in patients with CBP might not be a reflection of the presence of noxious stimuli but the result of the central nervous system being in a hypersensitive state, Central Sensitization (CS).
It has not been studied whether the presence of CS may be associated to more NOS and more limited lifting capacity in patients with CBP.
Aim	
To explore the association between CS, NOS, and lifting capacity in patients with CBP.
Methods
Participants. Adult patients diagnosed with CBP, admitted to vocational rehabilitation in a participating rehabilitation center affiliated with the ‘Vroege Interventie’ network across The Netherlands. 
Design. Multicenter cross-sectional observational. 
Measurements. 
- Lifting capacity: 	Floor-to-Waist standardized lifting test (kg). 
- CS: 		CS Inventory part-A (CSI-a, 0-100). 
- NOS: 		Waddell’s Non-Organic Signs (NOS, 0-8). 
Analyses. Partial correlations and multiple regression: Lifting capacity (dependent); CS and NOS (independent); and sex (covariate).
Results
56 patients with CBP from 3 centers were measured; 23 men and 33 women. (Table 1) Associations between CS, NOS, and lifting capacity were significant; multiple regression model explained 48.2% of variance. (Table 2) (Figures 1 and 2)
Conclusions 
CS and NOS were independently related to lifting capacity.
