Computational Thinking (CT) has been emphasized by a number of National Science Foundation (NSF) education programs and by other STEM education organizations as a critical 21st Century skill" for American students.  In the high school chemistry classroom, computational science and computational thinking applied to chemistry are as important as traditional wet chemistry, but there are many challenges to integrating the use of CT in chemistry instruction.  In this presentation, we will first describe various definitions of computational thinking, challenges and obstacles to their integration, and results from our NSF-funded work with standard- and honors-level high school chemistry students and teachers.
