TMS is established as valid treatment for resistant depression, and is an exciting field for investigation and therapy development for pathologies such as anxiety disorder and OCD.
Mental Health institutions, aiming to provide the best treatment options for their patients, must push for innovation and keep up with technological and scientific development. This paper presents HML’s experience in assembling a TMS department, detailing its components, procedures, human resources and objectives, providing a helpful insight to other psychiatrists wishing to implement such option in their Hospitals.
We compiled and organized information from the ECT Unit’s own documents and interviews to its professionals.
Our TMS department completed its first treatment of refractory depression in February 2019 using a Magventure MagPro R30 electromagnetic stimulator able to deliver repetitive TMS and intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation.
The Department’s is constituted by: a team of 2 psychiatrists, supervising all treatments; a team of 5 nurses; a psychologist tasked with psychometric evaluations; and a group of Psychiatry trainees learning the administration of treatments and evaluation scales.
Patients are referred by their psychiatrists, and undertake psychometric and psychiatric evaluations for treatment assessment and research.
The remaining information is detailed on the poster.
Our Unit is devoted to provide treatment to patients in need, and pushing forward knowledge on neurostimulation.
