Background: Post tonsillectomy pain can be challenging. The aim of this quality improvement project was to ensure adequate analgesia was given to patients in our institution and to reduce GP attendance post-operatively. Methods: This was a prospective quality improvement project. Analgesia charts were reviewed for adherence to local protocol. Mid-study intervention point included designing an automated discharge summary to pre-populate paediatric doses as per entered weight. and adults as per protocol. Results: There was 9% lower GP attendance in group of patients where local protocol was followed. No reduction in GP attendance was seen. Conclusion: GP attendance was found to be multifactorial. Re-assurance by GP's maybe an important aspect of patient recovery.
