Trichophyton quinckeanum is a zoophilic dermatophytes from the old T. mentagrophytes series causing favus in mices. The taxon has taken species status in the newst taxonomy for dermatophytes. This study reports human and animal dermatophytosis due to two unusual strains of Trichophyton quinckeanum for the first time from Iran. The strains were subjected for both macro- and micro-morphological features of the colony and additionally, sequencing of the ITS-rDNA for definite identification of the isolates. Phenotypic features of the recovered isolates led to the identification of Trichophyton sp., however in PCR-sequencing of the ITS-rDNA both strains had the most similarity (99-99.3%) to sequence JQ407219 for T. quinckeanum strain IHEM13697 which recently has designated as the neotype for the species. But in the ITS phylogenetic tree two strains were clearly set apart from other reference strains of  T. quinckeanum strains.
