It is reported that there is an unmet need in the area of fungal diagnostics where 10-15 % of infections are not represented.  A Pan Fungal real-time PCR has the potential to detect a broader coverage of additional genera of fungal pathogens and provide some advantages over non-molecular based methods, for example, β-d-Glucan products.
Bruker aim to expand their portfolio of real-time PCR assays within the area of invasive fungal disease (IFD) to allow a more tailored diagnostic approach, supporting the needs of a specific patient population, through a single product range.  The diagnosis of IFD relies on blood culture and histological methods which can lack sensitivity and specificity.  PCR methods of detection can improve diagnosis, often providing an early indicator of disease.
