Introduction: Best evidence for stroke rehabilitation suggests that mobility training should be task-specific and incorporate aerobic and strength training. Related research evidence suggests incorporating cognitive problem-solving strategy training may lead to better skill maintenance and transfer. The objective of this project was to examine the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of an evidence-based cognitive augmented mobility program (CAMP) for survivors of stroke.
Methods: Participants attended 90-minute individualized goal-oriented, task-specific exercises in a group format, 2x/week for 8 weeks.  Participants were taught the ‘goal-plan-do-check’ cognitive strategy and had weekly 1:1 sessions with a physiotherapist focusing on goal practice and cognitive strategy use. Participants were assessed pre- and post intervention, and at one-month follow-up. 
Results: Ten participants were recruited and 8 completed the program. No adverse effects occurred, and attendance was 95%. A large effect size post CAMP was found on self-rated performance and satisfaction (Canadian Occupational Performance Measure Scores) on trained skills, as well as on transfer indicators (Community Balance and Mobility Scale) endurance (6-Minute Walk Test) and balance (Berg Balance Score). Large effect sizes were maintained at 1-month follow-up with the exception of endurance measures, where a medium effect size was seen.  
Conclusion:  These preliminary results suggest that CAMP is feasible, and there may be a beneficial effect of combining best evidence for mobility and fitness with cognitive strategy training for survivors of stroke.  The positive results for skill maintenance and transfer suggest that further investigation is warranted.
