The aim of the research was to find the features in communication development in toddlers with Paediatric Arterial Ischemic Stroke (PedAIS) in compare with group of typically developed toddlers. 

Materials and methods. Case-control study in small groups. PedAIS group included 12 toddlers (both girls and boys, average 14,7 month old), who had PedAIS debut within 4 month of life or in fetal period (fetal, presumed perinatal and perinatal, pediatric stroke), confirmed by brain MRI. Control group included 12 typically developed children matched in age, sex, gestation age. Parents of all children signed informed consent form. The MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDIs): Russian version was used. Nonparametric criterion differences Kruskal-Wallis test for independent samples were counted (SPSS Statistics).  

Results. The significance difference between the following scales were found: «Action words» (H=.040,  p=.05), «Descriptive words» (H=.015,  p=.05), «Pronouns» (H=.006,  p=.05), «Passive vocabulary» (H=.0,  p=.05), «Active vocabulary» (H=.0,  p=.05).

Conclusion. The first results in small groups demonstrated that receptive communication in children 14 months old after PedAIS delayed in comparison with the results in control group.  Founded data point the necessity to pay attention to all aspects of  communication development in children with PedAIS already in early stage of disease as passive vocabulary is considered to be the base for active vocabulary formation and development.
