Objectives: Retentions of professional caregivers is a critical issue in the Japanese ageing society. This study aimed to grasp positive aspects that makes them remain at the workplace.
Methods: A qualitative design, based on a content analysis approach, was used in this study aim. From August and November 2018, semi-structured interviews were carried out with 14 chief professional caregivers in 11 special elderly nursing homes in Japan. The main interviews’ question was about work environment that can be factors in turnover and retentions. Participants were paired for interviews, which were held in accordance with the interview guide. The interview was recorded on a digital voice recorder upon participant approval, and the data was transcribed in its entirety. The researchers analysed the data by identifying and categorizing codes for the subjects’ responses to each question, and categorized the codes from the positive aspects. 
Ethics: Approval was obtained from the institutional ethics committee at Setsunan University (No. :2018-018, approval on 5 June 2018).
Results: Nine of 14 participants were females. Average age of participants was 35.0 year. Two main themes: “Workplace and organizational resources” and “Attachment to care work for elderly people” emerged as positive aspects. The former theme consisted of six sub-themes (e.g., “psychological rewards from superiors and colleagues”, etc), and the latter theme consisted of three sub-themes (e.g.,” feelings for the last time of life's seniors”, etc).
Discussions: These findings suggest that supportive work and organizational environment as well as attachment to care work for feeling for elderly people may contribute to caregivers’ retentions. Further research is required to examined the effect on it.
