Background
Diabetes and insulin resistance as a metabolic disease are rising unstoppable worldwide, causing many complications and difficulties for patients, and a heavy financial burden on society.Higher blood glucose levels caused by DM help many late complications, including dental problems.Treatment of these metabolic levels can now be stabilized with adequate diet, medication and medical control. In recent years, we have been involved in the development and publication of an international protocol in addition to our epidemiological and experimental studies. Our research revealed that not only malignant oral cancers, but also pre-malignant lesions occurred more frequently in uncontrolled diabetes compared with the control group. It has been found that dentists should carefully select the appropriate local anesthetics and schedule dental treatment for patients with DM.Semmelweis University Diabetes-Dental Working Group wishes to support the improvement of the quality of life of PwD through the interdisciplinary collaborations and guidelines.,

Aims
Our goal was to organize oral screenings for 2 national diabetes patient events in 2018, and also continue this initiative in 2019. According to our previous experiences (200 examinations totally) we are expecting 100 patient - dentist meetings per screening days.

Method
Patients needed to fill out a questionnaire before the oral screening and needed to sign a patient declaration that complies with applicable legislation and following GDPR (Ethical License Number: SE RKEB 204/2018). The extra and intraoral examination is carried out at the booth of the Semmelweis University Diabetes Dental Workstation, which is build up in the patient event, using the mobile dental chairs, and separeted mobile walls. During the intraoral examination, OHI-S, DMF-T indexes are determined, and TMJ (temporo mandibular joint) and orthodontic reviews are performed with the help of our specialist colleagues.Results
We organised 2 oral screenings in 2018 with the cooperation of the Egy Csepp Figyelem Foundation, and the Szurikáta Foundation for kids with DM. Our preliminary test results show that dental screenings organized during the patient events are popular, and most of the volunteer patients appearing are happy to participate (100-150 people/day). After the basic examination, if necessary, further treatments could be provided by our team, and the orthodontics and TMJ specialists, helping to collect data in this regard. The results of the Diabetes Dental Working Group at the Semmelweis University are confirmed by international publications and reports.We found, that patients with type 2 diabetes have to improve their oral hygiene, however type 1 diabetes patients having better results compared with the control group.Discussion
Oral health in diabetes needs to be controlled regularly by dentists, which should be performed in every 6 months. All newly diagnosed patients with diabetes have to be referred to dental examination, as part of other important health check-ups like ophtalmology or labor tests. It is easier to reach out PwD in patient events, and help them to improve their oral hygiene and guide them to be healthier.
