The synthesis of polymers and nanostructures from carbon dioxide and oxiranes represents an intriguing direction for the production of novel polymeric materials. These copolymerization reactions are generally catalyzed by well-defined metal complexes. Much of the current interest in these processes is due to the availability of poly(propylene carbonate) diols, which are provided by the copolymerization of propylene oxide and CO<sub>2</sub> in the presence of protic chain-transfer agents. This presentation will summarize the use of various chain-transfer agents for the production of a wide variety of polymeric materials, included those containing metal complexes.
