In contemporary society, the demand for glucose detection has been increasing in the fields of food processing industry and clinical diagnostics, especially for diabetes, so it is extremely significant to develop convenient and economical glucose sensors. Glucose sensors include enzyme and non-enzymatic glucose sensors. The application of enzyme glucose sensors is limited due to their poor chemical and thermal stability and high cost. While non-enzymatic glucose sensors have attracted considerable attention because of their good stability and high sensitivity. Although nickel foams and glassy carbon electrodes are popular substrates in non-enzymatic glucose sensors, it is necessary to develop flexible substrates to meet the demand of flexible sensors. Polyurethane sponge is the cheap, readily available and flexible material which is prospective substrate in flexible sensors. Therefore, in this study polyurethane sponge was used as the substrate to produce nickel hydroxide polyurethane(NHPU) electrode by hydrothermally loading nickel hydroxide which has excellent catalytic performance. Compared to electrodeposition which has complex operating processes, hydrothermal synthesis of nickel hydroxide is a simple and efficient method, and is easy to implement on a large scale and can be widely used in many fields. Moreover, nickel is rich in resources and low in cost compared to noble metals, and nickel hydroxide has excellent electrocatalytic ability to achieve non-enzymatic detection of glucose by reacting with glucose in an alkaline medium to form redox with Ni(II) / Ni(III). The results indicate that the NHPU electrode has excellent detective ability of glucose and even exhibits good detection performance in organisms, which could be good candidates for the non-enzymatic glucose sensors.<br/>
