The development of chemotherapeutic agents that offer high efficacy and low toxicity to non-tumor tissues are one of the main goals of cancer research. This study investigated the effects of tunable ionic nanomaterials as potential chemotherapeutic agents against cancer cells. The research focused on rhodamine 6G based fluorescent nanomaterials paired with various anions. It has been demonstrated that by careful choice of anions paired with rhodamine 6G cations, it is possible to generate nanoparticles with selective toxicity towards tumor cells. Additionally, the selected anions used influences the uptake of the nanoparticles into specific cell organelles such as mitochondria. This study explored a unique way to deliver the ionic fluorescent nanomaterials by using mitochondrial transfer between stem cells (SCs) and cancer cells. The results showed that SCs can deliver mitochondria that is fluorescently labeled with rhodamine 6G into co-cultured HEK293 tumorigenic cells. The nanoparticles also showed stability and steady fluorescence emission when monitored over a span of one month, suggesting their potential for cell labeling and chemotherapeutic applications.<br/>
