Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is an excellent example of Nature's ability to build complex structures from small building blocks to reach a high level of sophistication. Through the use of foldamers with alternating aryl and triazole residues along the backbone we developed a biomimetic system that resembles the hierarchical structure of TMV. The selection of a suitable template allowed us to direct the helical handedness and the length of the self-assembled structures. Detailed investigations of the folding process under the influence of a mixture of an aselective solvent and a selective solvent were conducted and will be reported.
