Biomass is an attractive source used for fuel (biochar and biooil) and chemicals production due to its abundancy, renewability and carbon-neutrality. However, the biooil directly generated from biomass is unstable and acidic due to the presence of a large number of oxygenated compounds such as ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, acids, furans and phenols, which significantly limits the biooil application. In this work, a hydrogen rich waste plastic is used to co-pyrolyze with biomass to cope with this problem. A low-high temperature two-step step-wise conversion process is proposed to maximize the synthetic effect between them in consideration of the heterogeneity of biomass. A HZSM-5 catalyst is employed to enhance the selectivity to aromatic production.<br/><br/>As the first step, LDPE and walnut are chosen for investigation. Experimentation was performed at a Py-GC/MS and a lab-scale fixed bed reactor, respectively. Variables such as temperature, reaction time and fraction of LDPE are studied. An optimal condition has been achieved in terms of aromatics production. It is found that the proposed two-step process significantly improves the aromatic production compared with conventional one-step co-pyrolysis and reduce the oxygenates. The aromatics yield can reach up to 30.2 %, increasing by 29.1% in comparison with one-step co-pyrolysis. Oxygenates are significantly reduced, occupying less than 3.0% in oil. Carbon and oxygen balances are made to ensure the accuracy of the experimental data. Characterization such as SEM, TGA, FTIR and Raman spectrometry is performed to explore the mechanisms behind the phenomena.<br/>
