Polymer networks possessing dynamic covalent crosslinks constitute a class of materials with unique capabilities including the capacity for adapting to an externally applied stimulus.  These covalent adaptable networks (CANs) represent a paradigm in polymer network fabrication aimed at the rational design of structural materials possessing dynamic characteristics for specialty applications and functions.  Here, we discuss the design, synthesis and several implementations of RAFT-based photopolymerized CANs. When activating addition-fragmentation as a dynamic covalent chemistry into polymer networks, relaxation of the network towards its equilibrium state is facilitated and accompanied by viscoelastic flow of the crosslinked network.  Here, we will discuss the implementation of this approach in stress relaxation, molding and shape change, liquid crystal elastomers, and in composites.  Distinct benefits of this approach include the spatiotemporal control of the DCC activation and the ability to activate the process during and/or after the polymerization.  This approach is shown to enable polymer network relaxation, photoinduced actuation and shape memory effects, and stress relaxation.  Ultimately, the potential for CANs-based materials to impact numerous materials applications will be presented in light of their distinctive array of material properties.<br/>
